Publishing Services

Norwood Press is now open for submissions from authors in the thriller, mystery, adventure and horror genres.

We give priority consideration to authors previously recognized in the mystery genre who are making the transition to eBook only publication of their newer, or previously unpublished work.

We are seeking full-length fiction works between 60,000 and 90,000 words.

Our specialties are the suspense thriller, the mystery, and the horror novel.

The suspense thriller is a story in which the audience is waiting for something significant to happen. The protagonist's job is to prevent the speeding bus from exploding, or the aliens from eating the crew. The reader experiences a vicarious thrill by identifying with the hero and the danger he faces, becoming a participant in the chase.

The mystery is a novel of revelation, with action more mental than physical. A significant event, usually a murder, has just occurred, and the protagonist's job is to discover who committed the crime, and why. The dilemma created for the writer of traditional mysteries is the fact that the villain and the details of the crime must remain unidentified, keeping the audience guessing to the very end.

Horror's greatest trait is that it provokes a response, emotional, psychological or physical within each individual that causes someone to react with fear. In order for that response to be elicited there are different techniques used, such as unreal dangers (zombies or vampires) or more real situations and figures (serial killers). The whole horror genre is built up upon people's fear of the unknown and anxieties. According to H.P. Lovecraft ”The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown."

We evaluate submissions seeking excellence in writing, solid plotting, original storyline, believable characters, strong dialogue, setting and voice.
